axr beckstoffer to kalon 2019
the 2019 vintage started with lots of winter and spring rain and in the summer it showed some similarities with 2018 with a little extra power to it. we had fewer heat spells than normal, but it was overall a little warmer than 2018. this translated into a long but warm growing season which gave us really nice ripeness and dense wines. we were also saved by some really nice morning fog that slowed down the ripening. for those that like dense, complex red wines with still a great acidity you will fall in love with this vintage.
on the rim: dark ruby with touches of crimson and red apple
on the nose: profound, deep nose with touches of black truffle salt, elderberry, soap, plum and dark chocolate
on the palate: savory, soft entrance evolving on a dense, layered mid-palate with touches of sundried tomato, red plum and cherry, lingering on a chocolate and typical micro to kalon tannins
