axr v madrone 2019
The 2019 vintage started with lots of winter and spring rain and in the summer it showed some similarities with 2018 with a little extra power to it. we had fewer heat spells than normal, but it was overall a little warmer than 2018. this translated into a long but warm growing season which gave us really nice ripeness and dense wines. we were also saved by some really nice morning fog that slowed down the ripening. for those that like dense, complex red wines with still a great acidity you will fall in love with this vintage.
v madrone is our estate vineyard with a fantastic history and incredibly unique east-facing orientation nestled against mayacamas mountain range at the base of spring mountain
tasting notes
on the rim: deep, dark shiny black oil with touches of dark cherry and blood on the rim
on the nose: beautiful explosion of fruit like blueberry and blackberry with violet, roses and elderberry, lingering on sage and redwood bark
on the palate: round, velvety entrance evolving on freshly picked fruit with black currant and boysenberry mid-palate, lingering on licorice and iodine.
